What is the story behind the SS23 Collection?
For our Spring Summer ’23 collection we took inspiration from Dutch graphic artist Benno Wissing, who was well known for his iconic graphic designs in the 60s. We also looked at major events in Amsterdam in the 1960s, and how they reoccur in new shapes today; like the Hilton Room protest of John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono against the Vietnam War, but also topics such as unity and connection.
How did art influence the creation of SS23?
The fluid geometrical motif design by Benno Wissing lays the foundation of our SS23 graphic patterns. We take the graphic shape and reimagine it as an allover print, laser cut embroidery technique and a fluid quilting pattern.
As Ampère lays its focus on textile design, what are some of the most special fabrics from this collection and what makes them unique?
This season one of our iconic pieces is the Johnny Overshirt made of 100% cotton with a allover floral embroidery, which gives an amazing 3D effect. Another interesting piece to point out is the Benno Shirt in multi-fabric patchwork. This item is made from left-over fabrics - fabrics we used to create the collection.
What makes this collection different from previous collections?
For SS23, we challenged ourselves to use a variety of techniques, luxury fabrics and trims. Like a quilted nylon ripstop, a thick cord embroidered fabric or oversized ring press buttons. The result is an intriguing collection, with a strong Ampère DNA.
How would you describe the collection in 3 words?
Intriguing, iconic graphic designs, harmony between design and intuition.
What are you most proud of about the collection?
We’re creating a bridge between artistic and functional design, by using beautiful materials for RTW garments. We show that typically basic silhouettes can be enhanced with material innovation and details.
Which item is your favorite piece?
A collection highlight is the Anton Kimono and Max Trousers in an cotton seersucker. Both pieces are slightly oversized, with detachable sleeves and legs in a beautiful alfalfa green. Practicality, comfort and design at his best.
What can people expect from Ampère in this coming season?
We’re constantly working on making statements whether through product or marketing. For SS23 we will continue to collab with like-minded people, who share the same modern aesthetic values as us. I feel SS23 is our biggest jump forward in showing our unique selling point: modern RTW silhouettes enhanced by the use of luxury fabrics and materials.
